How much of the room needs treating

It depends on the room, and getting the quantity right is a design step rather than a lookup. It is the part we do for you. Tell us the room and the speaker layout and we will specify it. What follows is everything useful that can be said before a design exists, and none of it is a number.

It depends on the room, and getting the quantity right is a design step rather than a lookup. It is the part we do for you. Tell us the room and the speaker layout and we will specify it. What follows is everything useful that can be said before a design exists, and none of it is a number.

The quantity is set by what the room is short of against its targets, not by its wall area. Two rooms of identical size need different quantities if their finishes differ, because the finishes are already part of the acoustic result before a panel goes up. That is why an acoustic design starts from the room's finish schedule, and why a square-metre rule of thumb gets it wrong in both directions.

More is not better past the target. Over-use dulls a room. That is a design question rather than a limit of the product, and it is the reason the target is worth having before the panels are ordered.

How it is bought. The panels come in boxes covering 1.44 m² (sixteen panels each), and quantities round up to whole boxes. So a design lands on a box count, not on a square-metre figure with a fraction on the end.

Where the coverage goes matters as much as how much of it there is. Spread beats concentration: the same quantity checkerboarded across a wall and ceiling does more than the same quantity in one solid block. That is its own answer, in the article on layout.
